Something Explained

Ian had managed to swoon Danny over with his guitar skills long before he had initially thought, being half in the dog box and all.             "So you really had no control over what happened?" Danny asked as Ian leaned against her kitchen counter.             "No," Ian answered, "If I did have control,   I would probably have gotten my squad killed along with the villagers."             Danny nodded and sighed. She still did not know what to make of it. After a short awkward silence, she finally looked up at Ian. "Tell me more -- why were you three even chosen?" she asked.             The two of them headed to her living room as Ian started to explain to her everything that she wanted to know.     Aaliyah returned home from work a little after 6. She had her pink headphones nudged tightly in her ears as she hummed to an Avril Lavigne and fiddled in her handbag for her keys.             She had just managed to open the door when s

Something Revealed

“Put this on” said Ian as they walked to the trunk of his car.   “What for?” asked Ed as he eyed the army helmet suspiciously.   “Coz if we’re going to do this, we’re going to do this right,” answered Ian. He had already donned his helmet, hooked in his balaclava that was patterned with a dragon snout, and put on yellow rimless sunglasses.   “Do these still work?” Ed asked as he hooked his balaclava, pattered with a duck’s bill, and put on his sunglasses over his regular spectacles.   “They should, I’ve been keeping the servers alive. Secretly,”             Ian pressed a button on the side of the sunglasses and they became darker as they booted up. They were active combat glasses that gave the user important heads up information.   “Let’s go,” said Ian and he headed to the door, a pistol in one hand and a sword, held in reverse, in the other.             Ed followed with an arrow nocked and half drawn. Ian tried the door, it was unlocked. They shared a meaningful glanc

Something Hopeful

Ed woke to a start, not knowing where he was for a moment before he regained his sense of establishment. He looked down at his sheets and laughed nervously as he wiped the sweat from his forehead.             Spiders, you idiot, he thought, of all the things to dream of, you dream of fucking spiders...             Just as he laid back down, his alarm starting going off. He used to just bash the thing in and return to his sleep but he felt fully rested, so instead calmly silenced the alarm and got out of bed and started with his morning rituals, which meant that he had to get coffee first.             He went downstairs and started the coffee. Expecting Ian to come downstairs any moment. Instead, he was greeted by Danny, who only wore another one of Ian's shirts, just as before. And just as before, Ed was stumped, though he recovered pretty quickly this time.             "You know, I'll never get used to this," Ed said as he handed her a cup of coffee.

Something Sad

“We’ve got another hit, Sandton City” said the Colonel.   “Something’s wrong, he wouldn’t risk it this early, not after yesterday,” said Ian.             He was driving along the highway, speeding in truth, on his way to the location. He had gotten the warning on his way to the Scorpion HQ. The other agents were also en route.   “Well, it’s a lead, so we’ll follow it,”   “This isn’t going to end well,” said Ian and ended the call.             A few minutes later he pulled up to the huge mall. He got out of his car and started in the direction of a small park where a few people were gathered, trying to see if any of them could possibly be Thor. Then his phone rang.   “Yeah,” Ian answered.   “The Dragon, at last,” said a deep, muffled voice.   “Thor I presume,”   “Good guess, personally I would have thought it a call from some deity lesser minds chose to believe in,”   “Come now, I didn’t take you for an atheist extremist,”   “I am not. I don’t have any religious

Something Recalled

Ed looked up at the skyline in the horizon, as the light of the moon shone on hundreds of windows in the distance. He recounted his day at his sister's studio to Ian. 'There had been nothing wrong the entire day. I left right after the two of you did. Being who I am, I tried to put last night's happenings behind me and take the day as brand new. Though that prospect did not last very long.             'From the moment I drove into town, I knew that I had been followed for a few blocks already, though I didn't want to do anything for in case I was just being paranoid.             'I parked my car right in front of the studio, got out and surveyed the area, though there were no car in sight. I suppose they had to know that her studio was located in a quiet street at the back of town.             'Relieved, I started the car again and drove into the little parking area behind the building.              '"Hey!" my sister called as she

Something Good

“Look, just get it done,” said Ian to Devon as he got his car keys from his desk and headed for the door. “Hi,” he greeted Melisa as he left.             He might have been a bit short with Dev but they were all still a little on edge from the night before. He got to his car and was about to make his way to the Scorpion HQ when his phone pulsed once. He knew exactly what it meant.             He looked at the phone, unlocked it using his secret pattern and opened the notification. Sure enough, Thor had tried to hack in again. He was positioning the sky-nail platform, and the coordinates had been sent to Ian, as well as HQ.   “I know, I’m on it,” said Ian as he answered the call from the Colonel while driving. She no doubt wanted him to get there as soon as possible.             He got to the factory and regrouped with his partner and a few other agents. Because of the precision that the sky-nail had, they knew exactly which office the target was in and they were making the
