Drama, a small essay

Drama is a concept that is not only omnipresent is real life and society, but also in decision making and how we as a people look at things.

I am a writer of drama fiction. No matter how much "sci-fi" or "horror" I always attempt to write into my stories, I always end up writing more drama, and honestly, I don't mind that fact in the least. As much as I love my Stephen King novels, or the next, up and coming Stephenie Meyer (save me) book, I always find myself drawn more towards that old and dust covered Jane Austen or Nicholis Sparks novels.

This got me thinking, especially as I sat and watched Gossip Girl for the past few hours, exactly how much drama we actually have in our lives. Sure, one would say that drama is what makes life what it is -- it is both excruciating, and wonderful at the same time. One would say that perhaps there are too much drama for one to handle at the same time. But both of those examples are only looking at one aspect of drama: the stereotypical set of emotions, actions, its repurcutions and finally sources; sources that usually only includes anger, envy, jealousy, or any other of the "bad" or negative emotions that stir our blood. The reason for this is the fact that this is usually the emotions that trigger our more primitive sides.

However, what I realized is that drama is not only the above-mentioned set of rules. It is quite literally what defines us as human beings. Drama is the happiness that surrounds our love, and the hope that we have whenever we think about a time that lies beyond, that is better than the current. Drama is the set of emotions we feel whenever we act upon a certain event.

Drama is what has driven Jimmy's dad to buy him that bike that he had wanted ever since he saw it a few months before. Drama is what made Jimmy laugh, and cry, as he ran towards his dad and embraced his dad in thankfulness. Drama is also what caused Sarah's parents to argue. Drama is what made Sarah decide to go live with her grandma two weeks after the divorce.

Therefor drama is, essentially, our very essence of being. Without drama, we would be without emotion. Without emotion, we would be without feeling. Without the ability to feel, we would be stripped of our sense. Without our sense, we would be mindless. Without a mind, we would be unable to dramatize, adapt, and act according to our surroundings.

I am a character in the drama that is life. Hello.
